Fasting Cloth

 
One of the museum's treasures is the fasting cloth of St. Jacob's Church, illuminated with many pictures.

It dates back to the 17th Century and is the only completely intact item of its kind in South Tyrol. In the winter of 2001-2002, it was restored using special techniques and is now back on exhibition.


 
 

Bedchamber of the Bierjun Farmstead (Late Middle Ages)

 
This restored bedchamber from the Bierjun Farm (near St. Ulrich / Ortisei and Überwasser/Oltretorrente) with its special equipment dates back to the late Middle Ages. Since the summer of 2007, visitors have been able to view it at the Museum, in a special multimedia presentation.

The red chalk drawings preserved on wooden planks date back to the year 1490, and depict profane (non-religious) and religious motifs. Visitors can view these impressive works of art via an "electronic window" and in a trailer.

The exhibition emphasizes the significance of red chalk drawings as a rare example of religious piety in the private sphere, and also allows a deeper look at the architectural history of the farmstead and the special features of the architecture of the farms of Gröden/Gardena.
 
 

The Summit Cross by Sëurasas (1932)

The impressive, larger-than-life-size summit cross of Sëurasas is an early work by the local sculptor Vinzenz Peristi (1909-1943), who died in battle on the Eastern Front, and his friend Baptist Walpoth (1911-1934).

In order to protect it against destruction by the elements, in 1959, it was the first object to be installed in the new Valley Museum of Gröden/Gardena. A duplicate now stands in its place at the original site.
 
  
 

"Crist de Val" (1620)

The "Crist de Val" is among the museum's most-valuable exhibits.

This is the case, not only because of its significant artistic value, but also due to its secret relationship to Langen/Lietres Valley (according to oral tradition). The artist of the figure is not known.
